Tree shelter, Christinehof Eco Park, 2012
I designed and built this sturdy shelter from oak from the surrounding forest. It is used as a meeting point for groups visiting the castle grounds.
It was vital that the structure was sensitive and proportionate to its surroundings without losing its own strength and identity. I designed it so that it fits in well with the surrounding forest and the green roof helps camouflage it.
The roof area is approximately 75 square metres and has been sown with a wild flower meadow grass mix. Between the beams of the roof structure is a clay and sand render. The floor is laid with oak log ends. All the oak used has been obtained from the Christinehof estate’s own forest management scheme.
