Chestnut Tree house, private commission, 2014
My client wanted a tree house large enough for the family to sit and enjoy the view of the sea. The large chestnut tree at the top of the garden proved the perfect place.
I built a viewing platform around the tree using oak timber with larch floor planking. Underneath, the ceiling shows the oak structure but has been filled with a traditional cob. Under the planking I put a pond liner to make the area under the platform waterproof.
A small sleeping area was created in the corner with its own covered roof and coloured glass balls for windows which capture the setting sun.
